Community Journalist

  • Salary: Starting from £16,000 to £18,000 (+ upto 10% pension and other benefits)

There is a huge opportunity for the internet to bring people together more in every community across the UK. The web is a great way to spread the word about local events and to get people talking with each other about important local issues.

We are looking for an sociable, organised and enthusiastic journalist to spearhead a bold new network of websites for every local council in the UK. You'll be working directly with the company directors to plan the new network and create it. It's a rare opportunity to be in charge of what we believe is set to be the biggest network of UK communities.

You will plan the content and features for the websites and allocate tasks to designers, developers and writers to build and improve the websites.

Job responsibilities

  • Plan the new network and the features it should offer.
  • Plan the content - articles, blogs, forums.
  • Brief our website designers and developers.
  • Measure the success of the network.
  • Take responsibility for the overall quality of the sites.
  • Control of a substantial budget for you to grow the sites.

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in writing for the web or managing websites.
  • Experience in planning and then delivering on that plan.
  • Interested in local issues and politics.

Desireable

  • Understanding of how web pages are built.
  • Understanding of how to promote websites.
