Anna Heywood
Copywriter and Editor
I didn't have an interview for my job at Fubra, but I did write a trial piece as part of the selection process. Once this piece was approved – it was city guide for Palma de Mallorca – I was accepted as a writer and began to take on projects.
It's tricky to describe a typical assignment because there's so much variety! One minute I might be writing a news item about illegal cannabis farms pushing up UK electricity bills, and the next I could be researching an in-depth guide to biofuels.
Being a Copywriter requires a certain amount of organisation and autonomy – you need to be comfortable working by yourself. A copywriter does a lot of independent research, so anyone considering the role needs to be sure they have some experience and skills in that area.
As long as you have an internet connection and a computer, you're sorted – I live in the beautiful Brecon Beacons but I've also submitted articles from Morocco and Canada! The flexibility of working for Fubra also makes it ideal for the self-employed and anyone who cannot easily go “out to work”, like parents with young kids, full-time carers or students.
Working for Fubra allows you to take an in-depth look at things you would never have bothered with before. My general knowledge and awareness of current affairs has really improved. Just think about the benefits of that when you enter the local pub quiz...!
